Comparison
These days the is absolutely no noticeable difference between Pentium 4 based PCs and Athlon based PCs. Intel have spent a lot more money advertising Pentium than AMD have advertising the Athlon and consequently the Pentium 4 is better known.
The Athlon is a very popular choice amongst high-power users - mainly because these users tend to be more technical and appreciate that the Athlon processor offers exactly the same performance, support and reliability, but at better value for money. Our head technician chooses Athlon above Pentium.
You'd have to be a technical guru or hardcore geek to notice any difference - in all aspects the two are effectively identical.
Speed Ratings
In comparing speeds, Athlon's XP rating is the same as Intel's Mhz rating - different technologies use different benchmarks - so for example an Athlon 3000XP would run at the same speed as a Pentium4 3 ghz.
CPU Types
Remember the Athlon is AMD's premium CPU, as the Pentium 4 is Intels Premium CPU. Please see the table below. High power CPU is suitable for advanced applications such as gaming, design and number crunching. For normal use, the value CPUs will be just as good.
