An AC adapter is supplied when you have purchased your laptop. This is the best way in powering your laptop and by having a continuous charge, you will not lose potential data from your laptop.
A laptop power supply is only way in charging your laptop. If you a faulty power supply, this can cause damage to the laptop. Laptop battery does have to be replaced at some point and it is best to get an authentic power supply unit that meets your specifications.
