What is an MP3 player and how does it work?
An MP3 player is a storage device that can play compressed media files that sometimes may only play audio only. However, there devices out there have high-resolution screens that are able to play audio and videos. If you are wishing to upload your music or videos, then you will require a connection to desktop computer in order to do this.
Any music tracks or videos can be can placed onto a MP3 device as it is turn into a digital file that has been compressed using a number of formats e.g. MP3, MP4 or AAC. High-specs models have built-in Wi-Fi or can connect to a 3G network and where you can surf the web and download apps/games.
Storing music on the player
It is simply to get your favourite music tracks onto an iPod as you will need to use a computer for this, either a PC or Mac. There two ways of doing this which is of uploading CDs or downloading music files from the web. You will need to have a media library system installed onto your computer such as iTunes. If you are uploading CDs, you will just simply put the CD into the computer that will then guide you through the process of transferring tracks onto your MP3 device and gathering information such as the artist, song title, genre and BPM (Beat per Minute). The other way to get songs onto your MP3 player is through downloading the files from the internet. Online websites that distribute music having incorporated social networking features, where you can see what your friends and family favourite music and films. Once you downloaded the music/video files, then you can simply connect the iPod to the computer via a USB cable, which will transfer the data across.
Which iPod to choose from?
There are a variety of iPods to choose from such the Classic, Shuffle, Nano and the Touch. It all depends on what you want the device to do. If you are looking to use an MP3 to browse the web, watch movies and catch up on your favourite TV shows alongside listening to music, then the iPod is probably the best device to buy. However, if you just want to listen to music whilst you are walking, running or at the gym, then the iPod Classic, Shuffle and Nano would suffice. In terms of storage capacity, all iPod devices range from 2GB to 160GB, with more storage meaning you can store lots more songs and videos.
Accessories
There are many accessories that you can get for your iPod device such as docking portable speakers. Some will let you plug it into your existing stereo system or some will have its own speakers with remote controls and even a DAB radio. If you are planning to the docking station around the house, then it is ideal to have one that is a battery-powered for portable playback. Most docking stations can recharge itself whilst you using it. Headphones are another accessory that can be brought for the iPod devices.
